Can you feel it too? The organizational landscape is shifting. ‘Technology’ is changing faster than humans, organizations and policies. ‘Digital’ is everywhere and it is a fine line to balance without being ‘overloaded’. Many organizations ‘talk’ about upskilling. Etc. Companies need to be future proof in this everchanging reality. My hope is that we don’t use the words ‘change’ or ‘transformation’ anymore. It should be part of our DNA and (new) reality.
What can we do to ‘future proof’ our work environment? My invitation to you is moving away from a more traditional command and control environment. It is not working and not future-proof. Instead, I argue to create a skills-based culture. A culture where people are proud to make all their skills visible and are valued on their skills. A culture where people are in the driver seat and take full accountability for their own skills development in order to stay relevant, innovate, work on the right projects and jobs, and grow. A culture where people organically and instantly can connect with colleagues based on skills (rather than job titles and hierarchies). How many of us really feel they can unleash all their skills in the workplace? How many of us see our colleagues unlocking all their skills?
How can we move to a skills-based culture? Not via ‘top-down’ roadmaps and plans. Instead, it needs to be activated ‘from within’ focusing on the individuals, the teams and creating an organic viral movement with ‘support from the top’. As business leaders and HR, we have a critical role to play to unlock the skills in our organizations. In order to do so, one crucial element is leveraging the right digital platforms, such as Huapii, to make it stick in the long run. Huapii is a people-centric platform and ally to future proof your workforce. It enables an open culture of trust through feedback; skills development through mentoring; collaboration & innovation through an internal skills-based LinkedIn & open project market; focused results through agile OKRs,… Ultimately increasing engagement, reducing the risk of burn-outs and absenteeism and creating sustainable conditions for people and the business to thrive.
Empowering our people for the future skills of tomorrow may well be the best way for our business to navigate these complicated, changeable waters. Download our free e-book to grow your people and skills!
