The Problem: Navigating Challenges in a Flat Structure

Navigating within a flat organizational structure posed significant challenges for BBC, making it difficult to maintain clear direction. To address this, BBC implemented a navigator role to guide the operations of each expert team. Despite continuous optimization, the need for a supportive partner became evident. Initially, BBC sought a tool to simplify the organization of self-innovation conversations.

BBC’s Choice: A Performance Tool That Embraces The Holacracy Model

In 2021, BBC transitioned to a decentralized management model, embracing Holacracy and self-managing teams to foster autonomy and efficiency. This model empowers employees by distributing decision-making authority and clearly defining roles, it also introduces challenges in maintaining direction and coherence across teams. Navigating these complexities required continuous optimization, and BBC sought a partner to support them in this journey.

Our primary goal was to find a tool that could simplify the organization of self-innovation conversations. After exploring several options, we chose huapii (which we internally named Booster) for its robust features and support.

Onboarding and Implementation

The initial conversation with huapii took place in September last year, and by the end of the year, Booster was successfully implemented. “The setup process was relatively smooth, and we were impressed with the responsive support provided by the huapii team. Their accessibility and quick response times during the implementation phase were particularly noteworthy”, says Renée.

 

Results

Booster facilitates regular, structured booster conversations where clear objectives are set and monitored, ensuring alignment between individual goals and team objectives. Additionally, BBC is fostering a feedback culture, transitioning from mere evaluation to feedforward thinking, which emphasizes ongoing personal and professional development.

After studying general management and HR in Lyon, I joined Solvay where I had several rich & diverse HR experiences. I worked in Lyon, Brussels and Paris, to finally come back to Brussels and accept the challenge of creating and managing Solvay’s Digital Studio flagship.

Being an intrapreneur leading an innovation incubator, taking part of creating a new ways of working platform that transformed the company culture and HR woke up my inner intrapreneur and made me jump into co-founding huapii!

Today at huapii I use my HR and change experience to make the workplace a developing and empowering place to be.
